Sailing Yacht Rulten: Korsvikfjorden, Kr.Sand S

S/Y Rulten

Rulten is a Hanse 345, yard number 127.

I took delivery of the yacht at the yard in Germany on April 24th 2014 and started my career as a sailor bringing her home with the help two more seasoned sailors.

The yacht is 10 m (34 feet) long, 3.5 m wide with a draft of 1,9 m and an air draft of almost 17 m. Without me onboard she weighs 6,2 tonnes.

Her name is originally the name of a 1065 m high mountain on Austvågøya in Lofoten. But for me the name comes from the family past. The fishing company Elvenes Notkompani was established and owned by my great great grand father and his sons, even my great grand father before he left to start his own business. In 1911 this company bought the purse seiner D/S Gadus and renamed it D/S Rulten and it was registered as N-15 SO in the fishing boat registry (of Sortland municipality). My family owned D/S Rulten until 1934 and the boat continued sailing for other owners until 1954. It even has its steam engine replaced with a diesel.
